What changed

Renumbered and regrouped: 30 sections of the 1961 Act are folded into 11 sections (225–235) of the 2025 Act, mostly by turning old sections into sub-sections. The scheme itself is carried over. Finance Act 2026 made amendments to sections 227, 228, 232(12)–(13) (minimum training requirement) and 235.

Practice notes

  • Definitions (old 115V, 115VC, 115VD) are now in section 235.
  • Book profit for the reserve takes its meaning from section 206 (old 115JB MAT provisions).
  • Check the bare Act before applying sub-section references: several old sections are split across sub-sections of 226–234.

These are summaries, not the statutory text. Read the bare Act for both sections on the Income Tax Department's official site, which also has a side-by-side comparison utility.
