What changed

Renumbered. Finance Act 2026 widened section 522 (old 292B): an assessment is not invalid for a mistake in quoting the DIN if the order is referenced by it, and approvals for assessment or reassessment are treated as administrative and not invalid for insufficient reasons or defects in authentication.

Practice notes

  • Section 522(3) targets the litigation on mechanical approvals (old 151 / 153D) and missing digital signatures.
  • Faceless schemes (old 142B, 144B-type powers, 151A, 157A, 231, 264A/B, 293D) are now consolidated in section 532.

These are summaries, not the statutory text. Read the bare Act for both sections on the Income Tax Department's official site, which also has a side-by-side comparison utility.
